The twists and turns work but they are not anything I have not seen. Both books are simple stories that don’t surprise nor provide any new questions. What is so far missing for me in this book series, which I am aware I am still early in, is a surprise factor. He remains a blank slate with a dark back story and not much more. I described Griffin in the first book to be “a bit of a plank of wood” but was thrilled to see him develop deeper. The thing I like most is the relationship of the main character and his love interest. I personally enjoyed this less then the first, despite still finding it a pleasant read. Overall a pleasant experience that developed where it was needed while still leaving room to grow and gain its own footing. The second book has similar story beats to the first and I am hoping the next books change up the team/love dynamic.
